Ireland Day 1 Dublin

Attractions of the Day: Oldest Bar in Ireland & Guinness Storehouse
Beer of Choice: Guinness

As a second honeymoon, we decided to travel to Ireland. When we first were married, we debated on Hawaii or Ireland and went with the tropical paradise. We always said we would go to Ireland, and we finally did.

We flew from Chicago, leaving around 8:30pm and arriving in Dublin around 10:10 am. We both slept a good part of the flight, which made the trip go quick. Once we landed, we collected our bags and after a REALLY long wait in line, we picked up our car and headed to our first B&B.

Eilish (our host), greeted us and showed us our room and our bathroom. Once we got cleaned up and settled in, we set out on foot to find something to eat. We were both starving. Our first stop was The Hut, almost exactly what I expected when I pictured an Irish bar. When we asked for a menu, they said they served two things for lunch, Chicken Curry, and Bacon Cabbage. I thought we were getting soup, but when our meals arrived, there was a lot of food and both were very tasty. We of course washed them down with a pint of Guinness.

Once we filled our belly’s, we made the rest of the walk into town and stopped at Brazen Head, the oldest bar in Ireland. Established 1198. Very cool. After a quick pint, we decided to check out the Guinness Storehouse Experience. This was a self guided tour that had cool media and exhibits showcasing the ingredients and brewing process. It was a 7 story tour that you worked your way up through, learning about what makes Guinness, Guinness. One of the exhibits was water, a main ingredient in beer. This exhibit had a cool waterfall that you walked under. The tour ends in the Gravity Bar, a bar overlooking Dublin and the Storehouse from 7 stories up. After a bit of mingling and a pint, we headed back to Brazen head for dinner. Shane got the Fish and Chips, Jill the Greek Salad. Both were amazingly delicious. We had plans to take the bus back to our B&B, but since the schedule didn’t have the bus coming around for another 45 minutes, we walked back. Since we were jet-lagged and exhausted, we called it an early night and got some rest for the next day’s trip to Galway.
