Wine and Cheese Tasting

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Attraction: Exile Brewery and Cheese/Wine Tasting at West End Architectural Salvage

We went to visit some dear friends for a night out on the town. After stopping by to see their new place, our next stop was Exile Brewing for some delicious beer and some tasty appetizers. We had the Calamari and Lamb Sliders. Both were very good. I had a brand new beer that came out that day (I knew because our waitress was dressed as a pirate and I asked her why), the Pacific Triad. I enjoyed two of these lovely beers and Jill had a flight of different beers.

We then made our way to West End Architectural Salvage for the wine and cheese tasting. This was at what appeared to be a very cool, four story building filled with old, very cool…. junk, for lack of a better word. And all of it was for sale. A lot of it seemed over-priced in my opinion, but I could see the right person paying those prices if it struck the right cord with their nostalgia. There was furniture, pictures, postcards, pieces of railing, posts, a buffalo head, old hubcaps, and almost anything you could think of that is 30 years old or more. The cheese and wine were okay, but rummaging through the inventory in this warehouse was a real treat.

After many samples of both cheese, wine and some chocolate and salami, we thought we would go for the trifecta of alcohol and get some whiskey at Bubba. I enjoyed a nice pour while the girls had more wine. Before the night was over, we found some jazz to listen to.

It was a great night to catch up with old friends and spend a night out on the town connecting with one another. We even got to pretend we were a little more cultured than we actually are!
