Chippewa Falls Hike and Brewery Tour

For a weekend getaway, we traveled north to Chippewa Falls. We stayed in the Hideaway Cabins and ours was a  quaint cabin on Lake Wissota. The lake had been frozen before we got there, but they had some warmer weather and it was beginning to melt again. The cabin was adorable. It had just 3 rooms, the kitchen/dinning room/living room were all one room, a small bathroom with a shower, and nice little bedroom with a queen bed. The decor was really well done with a classic cabin feel. One of my favorite decorations was the old radio on the book shelf that actually worked. I hadn’t tried to manually find a radio station that wasn’t digital in a long time.

We headed into town for dinner and had a great meal at Max’s Bistro & Bar. They served mexican style fish entrees. It did not disappoint. Very good fish fajitas. After diner, we took a drive around Irvine Park Zoo. They had the park trimmed in lights and Christmas themed decorations and we really enjoyed the slow drive.

The next morning we went for a short hike by a nearby dam and then grabbed some coffee from The Bridge Street Brewery. Our next stop was the Leinenkugel’s Brewery for a tour. Jill’s favorite beer has long been Summer Shandy, and even though they were not brewing it this time of year, we enjoyed the tour and many of their other beers. We then headed to another brewery by the name of Brewster Bros for some different beers and a bloody mary made from garlic and dill vodka. I must say it was one of the best bloody mary’s I had ever had. We enjoyed some live Christmas music from a couple that had spent some time in Nashville.

The next stop was the Fill Inn Station for another beer taste along with a Moscow Mule and, of course, some Wisconsin fried cheese curds. These too were some of the best I had ever had.

One the way home we stopped at on last “hole-in-the-wall” bar,Sunbeam Tavern where the locals taught us how to shake for shots (We WON! so the guy bought us shots) and talked about the town and life up in Northern Wisconsin.

We then headed home to relax in the cabin having some grilled ham and cheese sandwiches while watching Dances with Wolves. It was the perfect end to a perfect day.
