Date: Thursday, January 23rd, 2020
It was our last full day on this big, gorgeous island. I didn’t realize how much I’d miss the black lava fields of dried molten magma when we switched islands, but I did.
Morning Workout
We got up a little early to join a workout with Tim Hightower, a former NFL running back. He had been hosting a workout the previous days too, but we hadn’t been able to join due to our existing commitments. Tim is a Brand Advocate for doTERRA and one helluva nice guy. The work out was a good one and I think I had a healthy dose of alcohol coming out of my pores.
Walk Along the Beach
After our workout, we ate breakfast then headed back to the room to rinse off. We sat at the pool again for a bit and then decided to go for a bit of a hike along the coast. We saw another turtle on the beach and found a super cute homemade log swing. I sat there for a bit letting the sounds of the ocean wash over me, just enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.
The cool thing about the rocks on the Big Island is they are either black or white. The contrast in colors is beautiful and really something quite unique. I happened to stumble upon two that looked like hearts and caught them on camera so everyone back home could see.
Snorkeling in the Lagoon (Round II)
Once we got back to the pool, the gal that let me borrow her snorkeling gear earlier in the week said she was swimming with some sea turtles in the lagoon and I could borrow her stuff again if I wanted. I jumped at the chance, ran over to the beach, threw on the gear, and dove head first straight for the waterfall area, where she said she last saw them. I swam along the side of the lagoon watching fish as I headed that way, but soon the water was so deep that the fish were no longer around and the water was kind of cloudy. I would peek my head above water periodically to see how far from the waterfall I was. Out of no where, a huge sea turtle was close enough for me to touch. My heart skipped a beat. If I wasn’t underwater, I probably would have screamed. I hung out with the turtle for a bit and then continued my adventure to see what else was in the lagoon that day.
Luau
The evening consisted of some luau entertainment and an amazing meal. We had sweet rolls and pork and beef tips that melted in your mouth like butter. I was in love with this beef. It was so good I ate too much of it and felt like I needed to get up and go for a walk to try to jump start my digestion process. I headed over to the waterfall area of the lagoon because I saw you could get up on top of it. I watch the luau from there for a bit and continued my journey over to the dolphin area. It was kind of eerie watching them swim around at night. I’m not sure why. Like, maybe I felt like they were going to jump out and eat me? So I kept moving and headed to the beach to gaze at the stars for a bit while enjoying the sound of the waves crash against the lava and coral rocks. By the time I got back to the luau, it was over and we headed back to our room to pack up our bags for the flight to Kauai the next day.
